What is Certified Nursing Assistant and how it differs to other medical courses in the country? For you to appreciate this profession it is very important to know what it is all about. For other people, they considered as a mere assistant, helper and have nothing to do with some medical operations because of its level and degree. This is definitely not true and a wrong perception of their job.A certified nursing assistant is a commonly known as home health aides, nurse assistant, care technicians, and personal care assistant. They are usually working under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse in providing assistance and basic personal health needs of the patients. Aside from these, they need some medical advices from their head nurse or from the doctor itself in order to properly perform their job and for the safety of the patient. This is because their knowledge and skills are limited compare to doctors and registered nurses per se.
Therefore, it is very clear that even though their job is not the cream of the crop in line of medical field but is vital and indispensable both to their medical superiors and to the patients. It is a very rewarding job and humane because they need to invest more time and do good service at the expense of their personal needs for the sake of attending the health needs of their patients. If you are selfless then you are most likely fit in this job.
In order to have a clear understanding of a certified nursing assistant profession here are the following important tasks they are doing every minute and every hour of the day:
1. If they are working in the clinic, they are assisting the doctor in its daily clinical operations such as; getting the personal information or data of the patient, the reason for his check-up, get the weight, vital signs and assisting the patient in the laboratory room for a tests or physical examination. 2. If they are working in the hospital, they have to do the same thing and assist the registered nurse to attend the health needs of the patient inside the confined room. It includes feeding, bathing, movement of the patients in bed, washing and cleaning of the room and recording their observations and reports the same to their head nurse.3. If in case they hired as personal health care assistant to in-home patients, they are commonly substituting the daily tasks of the patients personally and clinically. It is more tiring because they to stay with the patient for long hours a day and often on called for emergency cases.4. If they assigned to work in mental institutions, they are most likely required to have a maximum patience and tolerance on the patient needs, conditions and behaviors. Regardless how irritant they are they have to control themselves and report the same to the doctors or registered nurses.
It is clear that due to their stressful job, in truth their salary is not enough to compensate their hard work. Thus, we have to be proud of them and give them due respect and recognition. It is easier to say than done!
